FIRE CHIEF/INSPECTOR — CITY OF PRAIRIE DU CHIEN, WI

WORK HOURS:  40 hours/week; 8:00 AM to 4:30 PM M-F, Community Events, On-Call 24/7/365.

SALARY: $50,918.40 year one and 55,161.60 year two.

POSITION SUMMARY: Planning, organizing, staffing, directing, controlling, and monitoring of all phases of the fire department’s activities in protecting life and property, including the assurance that all vehicles, equipment, and fire station facilities are routinely repaired and maintained. Conducting physical inspections to prevent and eliminate potential fire hazards, training and instructing fire department personnel, and the management of firefighting and rescue services. Work is performed under the daily supervision of the City Administrator implementing policies set out by the Police & Fire Commission with funding from the Mayor and Common Council.

QUALIFICATIONS: Minimum of 5 years firefighting experience, 2 years of officer experience (command position preferred), minimum Fire Inspector I certification or equivalent, high school diploma or GED, minimum of Fire Fighter 1 certification and fire officers training, supervision training and experience;  CPR & first aid training & certification, budgetary experience, 15 mile residency requirement of Prairie du Chien within 1 year.
