The Planning, Zoning, and Building Department is responsible for planning for the future of the City including the City’s Comprehensive Plan. The Department administers and enforces the Building Code, Zoning Code, Floodplain Code, and the Subdivision Code.
The Department processes applications for rezonings, conditional use permits, zoning code amendments, and variances and forwards them to either the City Plan Commission or the Board of Zoning Appeals. The Department regulates all building in the City and issues building and zoning permits, fence permits, demolition permits, and sign permits. Before renovating or building new, property owners and builders should contact the Department to check on requirements. Both the property owner and the builder are responsible if appropriate permits are not applied for and issued. If a project is started without a permit, permit fees are tripled. |
