Firearm and Drug Charges Result after incident

On February 26, 2018 at approximately 7:50pm the Prairie du Chien Police Department was notified of a shot that was fired from a firearm in the parking lot of the Microtel Motel located at 1833 South Marquette Road in Prairie du Chien. Officer responded to the scene and met with several individuals.
 
After conducting several field interviews with witnesses, it was determined that a male party identified as, Kevin Winegarden, age 47 of Big Bend, Wisconsin, was showing acquaintances a Smith & Wesson 9mm handgun. While showing the firearm, Winegarden discharged one round into the air. After further investigation it was determined that Winegarden was intoxicated and a preliminary breath test showed a result of .12 He was also found in possession of marijuana and a urinalysis test showed a positive result of tetrahydrocannabinol (THC). Officers also recovered a 45 caliber Metro Arms Corp. firearm.
 
No injuries were reported as a result of the discharge of the firearm.
 
Winegarden was arrested and charged with possession of THC (3rd Offense) and Endangering Safety by Use of a Dangerous Weapon. The case remains under investigation.
 
The Prairie du Chien Police Department was assisted at the scene by the Crawford County Sheriff’s Department and the MarMac Unified Police Department.
