Scenic St. Feriole Island is a scenic spot for watching ducks, eagles, and an ideal location for walking and bicycling. The island also has picnic
areas and boat landings. The Upper Mississippi River National Wildlife and Fish Refuge, which extends into the Prairie du Chien area, provides opportunities for fishing, hunting, camping, and wildlife watching. Two state parks and Effigy Mounds National Monument also provide excellent birding, hiking, and scenic overlooks of the Mississippi River. La Riviere Park offers horse trails and free horse camping for those interested.
Sportsmen can take advantage of the excellent fishing on the Mississippi and its bountiful backwaters. The Mississippi River is known 
for its plentiful pan fish, large and smallmouth bass, walleye, northern, sauger and all species of catfish. The area offers the highest premium fishing spots in the Midwest. Houseboat, canoe, and fishing boat rentals are available.
Prairie du Chien offers two public golf courses nestled against wooded bluffs which provide a peaceful scenic backdrop. Courses range from 9 to 18 holes.
Experience Victorian life during the 19th century as you visit the estate of one of Wisconsin’s most prosperous families. Built on the banks of the Mississippi River, Villa Louis was the country home of the Dousman Family. Today it has been vividly restored to its 1890s splendor. Costumed guides conduct tours daily, exploring everyday life in the 1890s through the lens of the Dousman Family. Admission charged includes admission to the Fur Trade Museum. Numerous special events held on the Villa grounds and in the mansion include the hands-on Breakfast in the Victorian Kitchen, Villa Behind the Scenes, Carriage Classic, and more.
