The PdC Parks & Recreation Department & Dropping of the Carp Committee is proud to announce the winners of the Lucky the Carp Coloring contest. With over 70 entries submitted  the committee members really had a hard time picking the top 3 winners as we could see all entries took a lot of time and energy to create their drawings and appreciate their wonderful works of art which are currently on display at Hoffman Hall and later will be taken to Lucky Park for the big New Years Eve Drop!

This year winners along with Committee members were Left to Right: Abbey Seputis, Tom Nelson, Brittany Hawkinson, Shawn Redman, Harmony Grover, and Cathie Nelson.

Don’t forget next week  CarpFest will also be hosting a Family Bowling Party, Family Gym/Swims, a Euchre Tournament, and an Early Bird Indoor Dropping of Carp Party featuring a Magician. For more information please call 326-7207.

CITY OF PRAIRIE DU CHIEN – POSITION DESCRIPTION

Waste Water Treatment Facility Superintendent

REGULAR WORK HOURS:  40 hours per week; 6:30 AM to 3:00 PM Monday – Friday (On call 24 hours/day, 7 days/week).

POSITION SUMMARY: Under the direction of the City Administrator, the Wastewater Treatment Superintendent supervises the daily operation of the City’s wastewater treatment facility and the City’s wastewater collection system.  He/she schedules, assigns, inspects, and participates in work of utility crews engaged in the operation of the Wastewater Plant and collection system.  Work is performed under the daily supervision of the City Administrator implementing policies set out by the Public Works Committee of the Common Council with funding from the Mayor and Common Council.  

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES: Operate and maintain the wastewater collection system, treatment plant, and lift stations to control flow and processing of wastewater, Bio-solids, and industrial wastes in order to meet WPDES or other state and federal regulation. Inspects all connections to the City wastewater system for compliance. Reads and records daily wastewater intake, treatment, chemical use, aeration, settlement, and discharge. Plan, schedule, and implement construction, operation and maintenance activities designed to provide quality wastewater collection and treatment service for the City. Train, supervise, and discipline employees performing the duties of operation, maintenance, and repair of the wastewater collection and treatment facilities. Maintain familiarity with DNR regulations and maintain open communication with the DNR concerning issues of concern. Attend City council and public Works Committee meetings and update the Committee(s) on important issues as necessary. Prepare an annual budget for the Wastewater Department. Ensure that operations are conducted safely, and work with the Water Superintendent to establish an adequate safety program. Recommends capital improvements and major equipment purchases. Maintain current inventory of all supplies, equipment, and machinery. Performs all related work required from time to time by the City Administrator. Ensure excellent public relations and provide information to the residents of the city as necessary. Work with city, state and federal officials to secure grant and loan funds for collection system and treatment works upgrades and improvements.

QUALIFICATIONS: Grade 4 (Advanced) Wisconsin Wastewater Operators License required immediately.  Subgrades A (Primary Settling), C (activated sludge), E (disinfection), G (mechanical sludge handling), I (phosphorus removal), and J (laboratory) are required for this position, and the DNR mandates that these will be obtained within one year of filling the position. State Driver’s License and ability to obtain Wisconsin Commercial Driver’s License with air brake and tanker (N) endorsements.

High School diploma supplemented by technical school training in wastewater, engineering, or administration.

EXPERIENCE PREFERRED: 4 year’s experience in wastewater operations, 2 years supervision.  Background in activated sludge, Familiarity with standard wastewater lab procedures, General computer skills Sewer construction and inspection.

Hoffman Hall was a great place to be last night as the Parks & Recreation Department’s 1st & 2nd graders recognized and thanked our Youth Basketball programs great sponsor from Southwest Collision Center, Derrick Boxrucker, and Jerry Gratz!

Additionally, the kids had a chance to meet Santa, make decorations, have some hot chocolate /cookies and listen to some great live holiday music!
